Procurement as a Driver of Economic and Environmental Performance

Fractional Procurement Leadership

I serve as an operational Procurement Director on a fractional basis. I help organisations structure and strengthen their procurement function, drive business performance, lead procurement teams, and manage strategic supplier relationships, drawing on hands-on leadership experience gained in complex industrial environments.

Procurement Strategy Redesign with Sustainability Integration

Food Services | Europe

Supported sourcing teams in redesigning the procurement strategy for a strategic food category across Europe. The objective was to integrate the Group's sustainability commitments while preserving the economic performance of the category portfolio. The engagement combined category strategy review, stakeholder alignment, supplier market analysis, and the integration of sustainability criteria into procurement decision-making.

Outcome: a revised and operational procurement strategy, fully adopted by the sourcing teams, successfully balancing sustainability objectives with economic performance.

Led the deployment of a large-scale procurement transformation programme designed to embed carbon considerations into procurement processes and decision-making across the organisation. The programme engaged more than 500 procurement professionals and 6,000 suppliers, combining methodology deployment, process redesign, supplier engagement, performance monitoring, and governance mechanisms to drive measurable impact at scale.

Interim outcome: an 8% reduction in supplier-related Scope 3 carbon emissions across the programme perimeter.

Building the Foundations of the Procurement Function

Healthcare & Medical Diagnostics | France · Operational Support Assignment

Provided operational support to strengthen and professionalise the procurement function. The assignment included an assessment of existing procurement practices, support to buyers on strategic tenders, implementation of procurement procedures, alignment with legal and compliance requirements, and the development of a procurement performance scorecard and reporting framework.

Outcome: a procurement function equipped with the essential foundations for long-term success, including clear processes, governance mechanisms, management tools, and operating procedures, enabling the team to operate independently and effectively following the engagement.

About

Procurement Is My Field of Practice

Procurement has been at the core of my career for more than twenty years. As a procurement leader with extensive operational experience, I have led procurement organisations across five continents for companies such as McCormick & Company, Danone, Panzani, and Auchan Retail.

Throughout that journey, one conviction has consistently been reinforced by experience: economic performance and sustainable transformation are not competing objectives, they are mutually reinforcing drivers of long-term value creation.

My expertise spans the full spectrum of procurement performance: category optimisation, strategic sourcing and negotiation, procurement transformation, supplier management across international markets, and the delivery of measurable business results. Over time, this has expanded to include sustainability-driven transformation initiatives such as Scope 3 decarbonisation, sustainable procurement, supply chain resilience, and CSRD readiness.

I view sustainability not as a compliance exercise, but as a source of competitive advantage, provided it is embedded in the operational and economic realities of the business.

Today, as an independent consultant, I advise executive teams and procurement leaders seeking to make procurement a strategic lever for both business performance and environmental value creation. I also teach Procurement Strategy and Sustainable Procurement at ESSEC Business School, DESMA Grenoble, and emlyon business school.
